The Day of Authority

This is the day Christ cleansed the temple- what things do we want to 'cleanse' from our lives?

Today's story is one we all can work on- no matter what the age.

This would be a great FHE lesson as you could act out the story!

The Feather

A peasant with a troubled conscience went to a monk for advice. He said he had circulated a vile story about a friend, only to find that the story was not true.

"If you would make peace with your conscience," said the monk, " you must first fill a bag with goose down and go to every door in the village, dropping a feather at each doorstep,"

The peasant did as he was told, then came back to the monk to tell him he'd done the penance for his folly.

"Not yet," replied the monk. "Now you must take a bag and return to each doorstep to gather every feather you previously dropped."

"But the wind will have blown them all away by now" said the peasant.

"Yes, my son," said the monk. "And so it is with your vile words. Words are like goose downs quickly dropped, but try as hard as you can, you can never get them back."

Object lesson- Find some down feathers and see how easy they are to blow away-

If you wish to use Easter eggs as an object reminder of this weeks activities here is what you will need-
8 plastic Easter eggs
Day 1- Red Balloon
Day 2- Feather (down if available)
Day 3- tiny mirror
Day 4- 2 pom poms
Day 5- Sacrament cup
Day 6- small string of pearls
Day 7- small wooden heart
Day 8 - leave empty- as the tomb was Sunday Morn

The Day of Popularity

This is the day the city cheered and welcomed the Savior as He rode into town on the donkey. He recieved a King's welcome because He is the King of Kings.

Here is a story and object lesson to help us reflect how we treat others- great for a family Sunday Activity!

Fill-it Up

Prep- find a balloon, blow it up but DON"T tie it off. Write 'individual worth' or 'self-esteem' on it. Whichever you think your children will understand better.

Object Lesson- When we say nice things about others it fills up their balloon.

Have children think of nice things to say-

"You look nice today", etc.

As they each say nice things add air to the balloon until it is full- again don't tie it off.

Now, ask you children to think of mean things that they say- start to let the air out of the balloon until it is all gone.

Talk about how when we say nice things we fill up each others balloons but mean and spiteful words empty them.

Bear them your testimony of how we each can fill up each others balloons and challenge them to be 'fillers' this week and not 'de-flaters'.

Check back each day this week for more stories and things you can do to teach those wonderful messages Christ taught us to live by when He was here on the earth.

Banana Ice Cream

Hello everyone, I'm going to share with you one of my favorite things to make and of course to eat! Banana ice cream; so easy, delicious and healthy. It might look a little interesting when you make it but it's really good.

Ingrediants:
Two full frozen bananas(don't mush up, just freeze by taking off the peel and stick em in the freezer)
Almond or any type of milk
Low fat whipped topping(optional)
Instructions:
Take bananas out of freezer let sit out for a few min.
Cut up.
Put into blender.
Add milk, enough to get it mixing.
Add whipped topping.
Blend all till smooth and enjoy!

Forgetfulness & Sweater Sock

My forgetfulness & Sweeter Sock Time

So I'm supposed to be posting on Thursdays and I already forgot to yesterday. Kept telling myself "o I still have enough time", and then the time flew by and it was already Friday! I'm not off to a very good start am I?

In other words, I saw the most ingenious thing, an old sweater sleeve cut and used at the top of the boot/shoe. Used to look like a thick wool sock, but without it actually having to be thick and taking up your shoe space.

I thought this was a perfect time to post this since it has suddenly gotten chilly out. Do you think it will snow* soon?

New Author & Measuring Tape Bracelet

Hello all Dew THIS subscribers. I'm Monica, a new author on this blog and I'm also Delina's sister! I will be posting on Thursdays :)
I love <3 this idea of taking something so simple and making it look chic. The picture is pretty self explanatory, need some measuring tape, scissors, and hook piece from any craft store!

Fancy Cleaning Gloves- pefect for Fall Cleaning!

I have a sister who is very into cleaning- meaning she loves to be organized and clean... the opposite of me. Okay so I like things to be clean but organization?? Not my strongest suit- though I am getting better. To make fall cleaning more fun (and these could be a great Christmas gift!) I made these Fancy Gloves for her- now I need a pair :)

Fancy Cleaning Gloves

Supplies:

A pack of rubber gloves (I got a pack at my local dollar store)

Scrap material

Any embellishments you might want to add!

1. First measure the end opening of the glove. I laid it flat, measured across X 2. Then add one inch for seam allowance. Now I wanted to have my gloves gathered so I took that number and again X 2.

Here are my approx. measurements for her small gloves-

4 ½ inches across x 2 = 9 inches

9 + 1 inch for seam allowance= 10 inches for width of glove

10 inches X 2 = 20 inches total for width of gloves

2. Now we need to see how far up your arm you want the gloves to go. I just guessed for my sister and I think I did 5 or 6 inches- just enough to give it a flare.

– Now this is where you can utilize your scraps- you can sew two or three strips together to make a strip pattern or any other design you want! Make them you so that you have fun when you wear them!

3. Now that you have your measurements- cut 2 strips of fabric. Mine were 20 inches X 6 inches.

4. Sew a hem down one long end. Do this to both pieces. – I used a zigzag stich to make it look a little cutesy.

5. Now you are going to gather the other long side of the material. To do this- make your stitch length long- I set mine as long as my machine goes which is 5. Now sew two rows of strait stitches close together- but NOT crossing. Make sure to leave long tails on the ends.

Sew how the machine is already starting to gather it for you?

To gather you gently pull one of the strings and it should pucker the material- this is the start of a gather. Now you slowly and carefully push the material closer to the center. Do this from both ends until you have gathered the material to fit inside the glove edge- remember seam allowance!

6. Next you sew the short ends together.

7. Pin the gathered edge into the end of the glove- right sides together and sew a seam.

8. Flip out and viola! You are ready to get cleaning!

9/11- Calling America

11 years and I can still remember exactly where I was when I heard about the attack on the twin towers- as I can imagine many of you can.

We have all been changed by those events and will continue to be as long as we remember.

Let us not forget- we can not afford to.

Here is a music video from Alex Boye- a great musician- who wrote this song on 9/11 eleven years ago. This February he became a US Citizen and finally felt he had perfected his song.
