D.O.T.S.- Depend on the Savior

My church  has a group for the teenage girls (called Young Women's) and every summer they go to camp! It is so much fun- I have lots of great memories of my years at Girl's Camp.

I had a request to create a handout containing the "Footprints in the Sand" using DOTS as that is their theme this year :

D.O.T.S.- Depend on the Savior

- isn't that great??

I love it!!

There are steps the girls can follow:

D- daily prayer
O- obedience
T- thoughts/ journaling
S- scripture study

Isn't it just tooo much fun????

SO I created a bookmark:

 (sized for a 8 1/2 X 11 sheet of paper)

and buttons!!
These are sized for 1 1/2 inch buttons

you can download them in the main theme

or in the actions

Hope you enjoy them too!!! I just thought this was so cute and clever!

What are your favorite girl's camp memories?

Monkey Bread

One of my favorite childhood memories is making and eating Monkey Bread with my mom!!

Now I have actually heard this called different things but Monkey Bread is by far the funnest:)

It is so simple, so yummy, and a great treat to make with your kids!!

Ingredients:
3 tubes refrigerator biscuits (I use the cheap ones- they work great)
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 cube butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

You will also need a Bundt pan to bake this in:)

1. cut  the biscuits into fourths

Mix cinnamon and sugar in a bowl. Dump in biscuits and let your adorable helper do the coating!

Little fingers are prefect for this job

Place in bundt pan
Also a great job for your little helper:)
Dump extra cinnamon and sugar on top- we need a ll the sugar right!!

Next get your butter and brown sugar in a bowl ( I re-use my cinnamon and sugar bowl)

Melt the butter- okay you could probably melt the butter before adding the brown sugar...

Mix them together to look like this:

Pour evenly over the cinnamon-sugar coated biscuits

 Hmm doesn't that look good??
Add your walnuts if you want them
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes

Let cool for 5 min. then invert on pan or plate

Try your best to not burn yourself as you try the first bite
Then decide why not and go for it:)

hmmmm hmmm good:)

Easy, fast and good- the best combination!!

Enjoy!!

Hoo are You??

10 Things I Love!

Sarah over at Scissors and a Whisk tagged me in her 10 Thinks I Love post!

So now it is my turn to tell you 10 things that I LOVE!

1.- My hubby

We have been married for over 4 years and it has been wonderful!!!
2.- My two boys!! (3 and 9 months)

They keep me up all night, up all day, wear me out, but then they make me smile, laugh and want to just eat them up!!

3.- It really goes without saying but I will anyway. I love my Heavenly Father and my Savior Jesus Christ.

They provide me with so many tender mercies and blessings day to day. I honestly don't know where I would be without my faith and trust in Them- and I don't want to ever find out!

4.- Cotton Candy

now you can only find this in the stores around Easter. I recently bought a bunch and I just can't stop eating it!!! It is just SOOO GOOD!!

5.-Crafting
I don't really LOVE one area of crafting I LOVE it ALL!! I think it is just the idea that I made something out of nothing or upcycled. GREAT FEELING!!

6. -Color

Again I can't just pick one! I think that color adds so much fun to anything! It makes me smile and cheers up my day!

7.- Libraries

Seriously. I worked as a Children's Librarian before I was married and LOVED IT- the BEST job every!!!! I take my son to the library a couple times a week! It is definitely my home away from home:)

8.- Books
I mean actually, physical books. I love the weight, the texture and the smell (okay am I weirding you out?). I love to see them all lined up on shelves - or on the floor of my boys' room-(because it means he is 'reading' them!) Books can take you anywhere, teach you anything and inspire you to become anything!!

9.- Ice Cream

When I got married I told my hubby that there was one thing we always needed to have in our house. EVEN if we were poor and couldn't afford much. This item you ask... was ice cream. It is my MAJOR comfort food. I don't have to eat a lot and most of the time just knowing it is there in my freezer is enough for me (I tend to forget I was going to it later) My favorite flavor is Cherry- one of the best dates with my hubby was finding out he likes Cherry too!! I didn't know many people who had heard of it much less liked it!! Plain Chocolate is also a big hit with me:) mix them together... {heavenly chorus}

10.- Digi Scrapping

Now I think this deserves it's own category from crafting. I think of crafting as creating things with my hands but digi scrapping is creating permanent memories of my kids. I can't tell you the excitement I felt when I finished our 2010 book. It was just.... perfect! I had completed a goal (always a good thing) and it was a book of my family- our whole year sitting on our shelf to go back and remember. Sadly, due to school I am already WAY behind this year but I hope to catch up soon!!

So there are some things about me- where you surprised by any??

Now I get the fun job of tagging 10 people!
Aubrie @ A Mama B's

Hoo are You Tuesdays!!

Its that time of the week:)

today's questions are

1. Do you plant a garden or flowers, or neither?

Someday I hope to have a garden but for now I just have a few houseplants

2. Does it bother you to have your blinds or curtains
open after dark so people can see in your house?

It drives my husband nuts!! Me- not so much
3. Do you like to go camping?

I LOVE to go camping- without kids- I am a little nervous about taking our 3 year old and 9 month old camping... its the water that scares me!!
4. Do you have a laptop or a desk top computer?

I had a laptop that recently passed away but we also had a desktop so now that is my main computer!
5. What time during the day do you have your most energy?

About 8 pm when I should be winding down for bed!! It has been hard having children that like to wake up early- I have tried to retrain myself but so far no luck.
So Hoo are You??

Hoo are You Tuesdays!!

Here is my edition of Hoo are you? from

1. What are your plans for Easter?

We live in the same community as both of our families- so we have always split holidays but Easter is my favorite holiday so we do our own thing! :)

2. Do you die eggs for Easter?

Yes!! Nathan has been looking at our pictures from last year and keeps talking about dying the eggs! I think he is excited for it!

3. What is your favorite Easter candy?

I really like Robin Eggs, anything with caramel and I am dying to try a creme-filled Cadbury egg this year- on my to do list :)

4. Do you celebrate the make believe part of Easter and/or the
religious part?

We do both- the Easter bunny visits our house but each night leading up to Easter we are talking about Christ and the perfect example he set for us all. I also do a personal study of stories I received as a Young Women and you can check it out here on my blog:)

5. What is your favorite part about the Easter holiday?

The hope that Easter brings and the promise of a new beginning each day!!

So what are your answers?

Be a Duck!

This was one of those 'light bulb' moments when you are trying sleep ideas.

Life has lots of ups and downs.

But there are ways you can get through life without getting brought down by everything that comes your way.
Now, if you know anything about ducks or have ever watched a duck for any matter of time- you will know that they like to peck at themselves. It looks like they constantly have some itch somewhere that they just can't reach!

However, this is not the case- in fact the duck is PREENING.

What is preening you might ask?

Preening is when a duck uses his bill to stimulate the oil glands in their skin and spread the oil over their feathers to coat them.

This is why ducks don't get wet!

The oil protects their feathers from the water.

Now, here comes my light bulb moment-

there are things that I believe we can do each day that will protect us from the waters of adversity.

1- we need to PRAY
Praying is our direct communication with our Heavenly Father. It allows us to ask for the things we need as well as remember all the wonderful blessings we have.

2. READ the scriptures.
Now I am LDS and so I believe in the Bible as well as the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Christ, and I also believe in modern revelation that can help us in our daily lives.

3. ENJOY the journey.
Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley once said, "
“Life is like an old-time rail journey—delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed.
“The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride”

4.  ENDURE
it isn't enough to just start down a path but you have to keep going -even when it gets tough. That is how character is born, through the bumps and potholes. I like the analogy of how we are stones that have to bump along until we are smooth and shiny- perfect in the end. This obviously doesn't happen overnight but is a process we go through our whole lives.

5. NEVER give up.
Now that might seem redundant- endure and never giving up (okay so I needed an N word- but you have to read the whole line!) The main message here is to keep moving forward! If you stop moving, you stop enduring, you give up and in the journey of life there is no stopping. You are either moving forward or backward. We need to be careful that we are always moving forward. I know that some day's I am crawling or just barely moving but if we have a goal in mind and we are working toward that goal-
we are moving forward.

Okay so know I created a little printout that will remind you to always P.R.E.E.N each day to get the adversity away.

I just want you all to know that I do know that if we do these things that it does make a difference in our lives. They are so simple, and there are plenty of times that I forget, but when I remember- the world seems brighter and the little things just slide off.
Our perspective can have a real effect on how we deal with trials and temptations and when we have the power of prayer and scriptures to guide us- we have nothing to fear.

Don't worry- my crafts and recipes will still continue but I hope to share more of my faith with you as well.
It is such a big part of my life and I hope that I can make your days a little brighter and more hopeful as we journey through this life together.

I am reminded of Dory from Finding Nemo, "Just keep swimming, Just keep swimming."

Come on little ducks- let's keep preening and swimming together!

Hoo are You Tuesdays!!

It's another week of Hoo Are You hosted by
Make sure you head on over to see what everyone else has answered:)
It's a lot of fun!!

1. What is your favorite magazine?

I really don't read many magazines.. so I guess my favs would be Taste of Home (although the older issues are much better!) and my church magazines

2. What color are your eyes?

Green
My son told me the other night that I have green and purple eyes- he really knows how to get on my good side:)

3. Do you go to the dentist on a regular 6 month schedule, or do you put it off?

Totally put it off- -I HATE the dentist. I have a condition where my enamal is not hard enough so my teeth tend to decay from the inside out! Doesn't matter what I do (Yes I still brush my teeth- I have to it's just gross not to in my opinion) and I am supposed to be in dentures before I am 30- maybe 40 if I am lucky. :(

4. Do you use anything to make your house smell good?
ex: candles, spray,etc...

I LOVE LOVE candles!!
I have tried to get into the Scentsy thing but I think that the scents don't last long and they are really expensive!!

5. Do you have any pets?

Right now we just have fish. We did have two rabbits for a while and that was fun (our apartment manager said we could then changed her mind- its a long story) Hopefully someday we can have a dog for my boys. I love animals so when we get our house I am sure we will have a little collection:)

So that's me for this week!!

What are you answers??

Chicken Pot Pie AKA Pot Pi

So on March 14 AKA Pi Day I promised you the recipe for my divine Chicken Pot Pi!

It is soo easy and soo good!

Here is one of those easy suppers that will have everyone thinking you slaved all afternoon:)

Chicken Pot Pi

1 can cream of chicken soup
1 1/ 2 cups chicken broth
(I use chicken bouillon and water so don't let it scare you off! It used to scare me)

3 cups chopped cooked chicken
(any leftovers work great! Even turkey!)
1 10- oz package frozen mixed veggies or any combo you like
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper

1/2 cup butter- softened
1 cup flour
3/4 milk

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cook soup (undiluted) over medium heat. Whisk in broth until smooth. Add chicken, frozen veggies, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes stirring occasionally.

Pour into a 7 X 11 baking dish and set aside

In a bowl, cut butter into flour with fork until crumbly

 Add milk-
not too much will make the biscuit not cook and too little makes them crunchy
you just have to find your preference

This is my result (I used the full 3/4 cup)
Keep it lumpy- don't OVERMIX

Gently spoon batter over top of chicken mixture
don't try to get it even it won't work and just cause you stress:)

Back uncovered for 35 minutes or until crust is golden brown:)

Then sit back and take all the praise you are given for another great meal for family dinner!

Make sure you check back for an upcoming BIG surprise I have been working on!!
